Imagine you couldn't see. The simplest things in life suddenly become the most intimidating. What if you need a recipe to cook yourself a meal? Who would help you with instructions for a new appliance? Where would you go if you wanted to read a good book?
Our Mission is to help blind people by transcribing a wide variety of materials into braille.
Today, Blind people depend on a universal language for all their reading materials, Braille. But these people often find a limited supply of materials readily available.
One of our main functions is transcribing Text Books for blind students attending classes with sighted peers on the elementary and secondary education levels.
- fiction
- non-fiction
- manuals
- job instructions
- heart alert information
- hospital entrance instructions
- restaurant menus
- copies of wills
- cards- even personal letters
Furthermore, we help the visually impaired by brailing a wide variety of materials that can help blind individuals lead active, productive, meaningful lives.
Midwestern Braille also has a secondary function of recruiting volunteers to train them to transcribe braille. Even though there are computer programs available that do the transcribing for the user, there is still a great need for volunteers.
